Preschool Color and Shape Mini-Lessons

Materials:

Here are some shape flashcards.

Here are some shapes to print out on card stock for your child to use. You may choose to cut them out ahead of time and store them in a simple ziploc baggie.

Day 1

Listen to this song about shapes.

Here is a caterpillar to make with circles. Cut out the circles and glue them on your caterpillar. Color each circle a different color .

 

Day 2

Here is a song about the color blue.

Blue is my favorite color. Here is a blue fish. And here is another Blue that you may know.

Here is a book to make. Itsy Bitsy Book.

 

Day 3

Here is a song about shapes. WOW! Did you know there were so many shapes?

Here is a cute Square.

Here is a worksheet about a square. You don’t have to trace the words, but Mommy can read them to you.

 

Day 4

Here is a video about the color brown.

This little boy is playing with all sorts of brown things.

Day 5

Here is the shape train.

What does a rectangles look like? Here are some to look at. Rectangles.

Here is a page for you to color with marker. Color just the rectangle side. Save this paper. You will need it when we learn about triangles. Rectangle and Triangle page.

 

Day 6

Here is a video about the color yellow.

Can you find some things around your house that are yellow? I found one of these at my house. 🙂

Go get your Rectangle and Triangle page. Color the triangle side with marker today.

 

Day 8

I think if you look outside, you may be able to find something green. These cute little guys are green.

Day 10

Where I live, I can see leaves in the Autumn that are red. Can you see leaves like this where you live?

Day 11

Try singing with the shape song today.

Today, we will learn about stars.

Do you have a star shaped cookie cutter at your house? If you do, you may use it to make star shapes in your play dough. If you don’t, you can still make a star shape out of your play dough. Print this star . You can put your play dough on top of it and shape your play dough to match.

 

Day 12

Here is a video about the color purple.

Can you find your purple crayon? I found mine.

Day 13

Today, we will learn about ovals. This is a picture of oval gems. Aren’t they pretty?

Color and add this page to your shape book. Oval page. Keep this page because we will use it soon to review squares.

Go and get the page that you worked on during our last shape lesson. It has both a square and an oval on it. Color the square and add this page to your shape book.
